Edizione 2011
Canazei in July will still be the capital of skurunning
venerdì 27 maggio 2011

Two months to go and then the Dolomites Skyrace will come back and all the details of this great sporting event have already been fixed. On the week-end of July 23-24 2011 Canazei will become once again the world capital of skyrunning as third trial of the Skyrunning World Series and the Organizing Committee has released the official programme of the race.
In the next edition there will be some relevant innovations with respect to the past ones. The first news concerns the first edition of the Mini Dolomites Skyrace, scheduled on Saturday 23 at 4.00 p.m. It is a skyrace, with mass start, open to the youngest skyrunners, both male and female, from 9 up to 16 years old, who will be divided into two different categories. They will compete along a 2,5 km track. As for the major competition, the start and the arrival will be in Piazza Marconi, the main square of Canazei. The entries to the Mini Dolomites Skyrace will be collected directly by the start area untill a few minutes before the start of the race. More detailed information about the Mini Dolomites Skyrace will be provided on a special section in our official website.
Considering the last year’s great participation of athletes, on Saturday at 6.30 p.m. by the Cinema Marmolada in Canazei the technical briefing will take place to provide all the specific information about the race. During this meeting a scientific informator of EthicSport, an important laboratory specialized in producing and distributing first rate sport supplements, will relate about how to feed and drink in a proper way while running a skyrace, providing useful information on the refreshment points placed along the track. For the first time in a skyrace and only for those athletes who will try them, energetic bars and food supplements, both along the uphill and the downhill, will be at disposal at the refreshment points. Traditional foods such as chocolate, fruits and water won’t lack, as usual!
On Saturday, at 9.00 o’clock, the opening ceremony will be held to introduce this important event to all the guests who spend theirs holidays in Canazei and in Val di Fassa. The Dolomites Skyrace will be introduced also by means of the spectacular videos of the past editions and by introducing the first top skyrunners who will withdraw their race number. During the evening, the prize giving ceremony of the Mini Dolomites Skyrace will take place, accompanied by the local music bands and the Ladin folklore that will entertain the audience with their music and traditional dances. Some stands will be mounted around the stage for an interesting exhibitions of specific equipments for mountain sports.
On Sunday morning, at 8.30 in Piazza Marconi the 14^ edition of the Dolomites Skyrace will start. Surrounded once again by the marvellous Dolomites peaks and mountains, this race will recall the greatest skyrunners, men made of iron, not scared by the sharpness of the rocks, by the slipy grounds and the downhills that take them to the limits. An endless uphill from Canazei to reach the 3.152 m of Piz Boè and 12 km of steep and dangerous downhill to return back to the arrival. A race of incredibile beauty, for the track itself and for the natural surroundings, not only for the athletes but for their supporters too.
Another news: to the first 100 spectators who will reach the top of the Piz Boè to assist to the athletes’ passage a T-shirt of the event will be given as a present by the Organizing Committee. Moreover, to make the arrival of the supporters the top easier and faster, the Sass Pordoi Cable Car will be operating for free from 7.00 to 8.30 a.m.
The Organizing Committe, guided by its president Diego Salvador, really hopes that the weather will make the 22 km routes possible once again. In the last two editions the Dolomites Skyrace route was changed because of the impossibile weather conditions, and mainly for the athletes’ safety, but we really hope that next July 24 all the skyrunners who will compete in the Dolomites Skyrace could touch the sky of the 3152 m of Piz Boè once again!
